Department of Physics Education
The department offers Bachelors degree in Physics Education. The curriculum is designed to train the students with every necessary aspect of both core Physics and Physics Education. The qualified undergraduate education in the department allows students to learn physics and how to teach physics. The students who also wish to continue their carriers in academic fields and to pursue a higher degree attain sufficient physics knowledge and the training they need.
The program leading to an ultimate Bachelors degree comprises core mathematics as well as core physics courses, including Introductory Physics Classes, Modern Physics, Optics, Molecular Physics, Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Electrodynamics, Programming and Modeling. In the meantime, students gain sufficient knowledge about teaching methods required for secondary schools by taking Pedagogy, Sociology, Psychology and Education classes during their study. They are required to have an internship in the final year of study in order to finish their degrees.
The instruction language in the department is English. In the first year of the study, students are expected to learn English at a satisfactory level to be able to follow English taught classes in subsequent years. To do this, each student is taught one year of intense English classes after initial enrollment if student’s English is not sufficient.
The laboratory used in introductory Physics classes involves modern equipments. The equipments are connected to computers via an interface allowing students to see real time results during the performance of experiments.
The Bachelors program comprises 168 credit hours of study with about 40 classes. There are 5 elective courses enabling students to improve their potentials in different areas.
Scientific researches are conducted in the fields of mathematical modelling, computational physics, atomic and molecular physics, and biophysics.
